KINSALE PINK RIBBON WALK RAISES OVER E80,000 FOR ACTION BREAST CANCER
Posted by Kinsale Advertiser on Tuesday 5 August 2014

Kinsale Pink Ribbon Walk has announced that €80,491 has been raised for Action Breast Cancer, a programme of the Irish Cancer Society.

Over 1000 walkers and runners from Kinsale, Cork and all over Ireland completed the annual 10km event on Sunday 2nd March and donations have been steadily coming in over the past four months.

This is the third Kinsale Pink Ribbon Walk and over €285,000 has been raised in Kinsale for Action Breast Cancer to date - a testament to the dedication of participants and volunteers and generosity of sponsors and donors.

“We are thrilled to announce such a phenomenal amount raised again this year by the Kinsale Pink Ribbon Walk to benefit Action Breast Cancer,” said Jackie Dawson, Chairperson of the Kinsale Pink Ribbon Walk Committee 2014.

“We wish to thank everyone for taking part and for actively fundraising over the past few months. Thanks also to our fantastic Brand Ambassadors Sharon Crosbie and Cara O’Sullivan for their incredible support and to Kinsale Good Food Circle, Cully & Sully and Tipperary Active Water and all other sponsors who helped keep the costs down and the fundraising seriously high.”

The Kinsale Pink Ribbon Walk also produced a CD of ‘Amazing Grace’ with Sharon Crosbie and Friends that became the Walk’s anthem. It is still available (€2) at Super Valu Kinsale and Carroll’s Shops in Cork and Dublin and to download (99c) on itunes.

The Pink Ribbon Walk is a national fundraising initiative which organises sponsored charity walks in locations around the country in aid of Action Breast Cancer, a programme of the Irish Cancer Society. The objective is to empower individuals and communities to increase breast cancer awareness, promote healthy living and raise funds for Action Breast Cancer through a fun and rewarding experience.

Together with other Pink Ribbon Walks in Ireland, it is hoped that over €1 million will be raised for Action Breast Cancer since the first Pink Ribbon Walk in Kells, Co. Meath, in 2009.

In May Kenmare held its first Pink Ribbon Walk and in June, Killaloe held its walk. The Boyne Valley Pink Ribbon Walk, Co. Meath, takes place on Sunday 5th October 2014.
