Celebration of Irish Lacemaking in Kinsale
Posted by Kinsale Advertiser on Tuesday 10 March 2015

The Traditional Lacemakers of Ireland are celebrating Irish Lacemaking this week in the Trident Hotel in Kinsale. In addition to an exhibition of antique dresses and parasols in the hotel there is a Lace Trail through the streets of the town. Over a dozen shops and galleries in Kinsale are displaying magnificent lace and needle work from Carrickmacross, Youghal, Mountmellic, Limerick and of course Kinsale!
Pictured is an Irish wedding gown dating back to 1880! The gown is made of ivory coloured silk satin with crepe and Brugge bobbin lace trim (cuffs and collar). It has a typical early bustle back with a long gathered train that can be hiked up and tied for travel. As well as the wedding dress there is a crinoline printed black organza ball gown dating back to 1860, a Scottish black and purple striped silk taffeta mourning gown from 1870 and a pink silk summer tea gown from 1905 on display.
Pop in to Kinsale Tourist Office for details on the Lace Trail.
