Busy Weekend Ahead in Kinsale

This weekend is shaping up to be a busy one in Kinsale with a number of events taking place.
Kinsale Lions Club Cycle Challenge is on Saturday morning, cyclists can choose between a nice leisurely 70km cycle or a more challenging 100km ride along the coastal road to Clonakilty and back. The group will leave Kinsale Community School at 10am, for those who haven't pre-registered on line, registration will be facilitated at KCS from 8.30am.
The Kinsale Taste the Wild Atlantic Way Street Food Fest takes place on Saturday 1pm to 4pm. Some of Kinsale's pretty winding streets will be transformed into open air street markets with tastings and take-home food on sale for under €5. There will be music, face painting and entertainment for all the family.
The Temperance Hall will be the venue on Saturday and Sunday for the Schools' Centenary Exhibition, 12pm to 5pm each day, hosted by Kinsale & District History Society. Come along and see projects, art, film and more by the gifted children of Kinsale, their theme is Remember, Reflect, Reimagine. All welcome, free admission!
Kinsale & District History Society have also organised a ceremony marking the centenary of the 1916 Rising on the Plaza at 3pm.
Sunday morning sees the Old Head of Kinsale Run & Family Walk from Garrylucas Beach at 11.30am, register between 10.30am & 11am. There will be prizes for Mens, Ladies & U16. All funds raised go towards the Old Head Signal Tower & Restoration Fund.
Finally the highlight of the weekend has to be the 6th All Ireland Chowder Cook Off in the grounds of Actons Hotel on Sunday 2pm to 4pm! Top professional chefs from Antrim to Kinsale and all regions in between will compete for the coveted title as well as the Derek Davis Perpetual Trophy and a trip to Newport, Rhode Island. Members of the public are invited to come along and be a judge, tickets cost just €15, you get to sample all the chowders and vote for Ireland's Top Chowder Chef 2016.
