South Union - Hunt for Hospital!
Posted by Kinsale Advertiser on 06 December 2013

The South Union Foxhounds are holding a very special meet on New Year’s Eve; a day to make a contribution to the community from where their hunt was born. All funds taken on the day will be passed directly to Kinsale Community Hospital. The meet will be open to all and we would estimate that around 60 horses and riders will gather at Kinsale Equestrian Centre at 10.30 and be led to the area between the Kinsale museum and the Greyhound Pub. Here they will joined by the hounds under the watchful eye of their Huntsman, John Cantillon.  Riders and spectators alike will be treated to music played by Michael and Jimmy and nibbles provided by Jim Edwards, all are very welcome to come and join the spectacle at approximately 11.30. The hunt will then continue through Kinsale and on to Charles Fort.

The South Union Foxhounds were formerly established in 1829 but their history can be traced back to the Daunt family who arrived in Cork in the 11th century! They are the only registered hunt in the area and membership includes many locals of all ages who meet regularly on a Tuesday and Saturday from November until March.

Pat Maher, the Hunt Chairman said “We are proud to support the local community hospital, the area has been very kind to us and we cannot thank the farmers and landowners enough. We hope that as many adults and children will join us as we pay tribute to the sterling work carried out at the hospital”.

At the end of the day the riders will return to the Kinsale Equestrian Centre for light refreshments.

Please come and support us, take in the fresh air of Kinsale as 2013 comes to an end.
