Emergency Medical Services Gathering brings the Emergency Services Family together in Kinsale to Learn and Inspire

Kinsale is set to add to its international profile dramatically this week when the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Gathering, an international interagency educational event, takes place on the 4th and 5th of May. Emergency Services experts from HSE, National Ambulance Service, Defence Forces, Gardaí, Irish Naval Service, Irish Air Corps and voluntary emergency services will join other international experts in the stunning backdrop of Kinsale Harbour. All are taking part in this unique award winning educational event that attracts guest delegates from all over the world.

This conference has received national and international recognition for its novel use of education methods to deliver a ‘learning with leisure’ experience. Esteemed national and international experts deliver education in a style and location never to be forgotten.

Over three hundred delegates and personnel are expected, many coming from overseas including: Canada, Australia, US, UK and Poland, to share their experiences in managing emergencies. This unique event is organised voluntarily by members of the Emergency Services.

Key aspects of the EMS Gathering include:
* Discussions on topical EMS subjects: Emergencies in mental health, care of the elderly and maritime medicine as well as self-care for responders.
* A broad range of workshops: Diving and seaside emergencies, managing a hostile situation from a Tactical Emergency Medical Support point of view, negotiating and managing a patient in a mental health crisis and much more which will take place on various sea vessels and forts throughout Kinsale.

EMS Gathering Organiser, Advanced Paramedic, Kieran Henry states “For members of the Emergency Services family, this is a really important couple of days for us to learn from each other, inspire one another and to discuss really important areas that help us deliver better patient care. This year we have a special focus on our own health and wellbeing, which can be tested while dealing with emergencies and their aftermath.”

Fellow Organiser, Conor Deasy, Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Cork University Hospital and Deputy Medical Director of the National Ambulance Service, added “It is a privilege to bring together world class leaders in emergency management from across the globe in Kinsale. The range and depth of topics covered will benefit each of us in working effectively together across agencies and disciplines to deliver optimal patient care.’’
