Cork City Marathon have announced the dedication of the 2014 Half Marathon to the memory of former Deputy Race Director, Tony Brauders, who passed away suddenly in October 2013. The Tony Brauders Half Marathon 2014 will honour the outstanding contribution that the former deputy made to the internationally recognised marathon.
“We wanted to pay tribute to our dear friend, and Deputy Race Director Tony Brauders, who we miss terribly.  Tony was involved with Cork City Marathon for the last 8 years, since our first marathon in 2007,” said Race Director, Jim O’Donovan.
“In honour of Tony and as some recognition of his outstanding voluntary contribution, this year’s half marathon will be named after him. I know he would want everyone to enjoy the Tony Brauders Half Marathon 2014,” he added.
Changes to the starting point and time of the Tony Brauders Half Marathon were also announced. The half marathon, which is completely booked out this year, will now start on Victoria Road at 10.45am, and participants should assemble at Kennedy Park by 10.30am. The starting point can be easily accessed from City Hall or the Blackrock Road. There will be no parking available in the area on the day and the road will be closed to traffic from 8am on Monday 2 June.
The Cork City Marathon takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, 2nd June 2014 and over 9,000 participants have already registered to run in the full, half, relay, inter-services and youth relay teams on the day.
