A Proper Cycle Run!
Posted by Kinsale Advertiser on Monday 4 March 2013

On Saturday, April 20th, the Kinsale Cycle Challenge starts from the Rugby Club at 10 o’clock and follows the beautiful south coast route towards Clonakilty.
In recent years, the run has attracted around 250 cyclists of all ages and abilities, who have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and who have helped support the National Rehabilitation Centre and the Cork Hospitals’ Children’s Club.
Organised and marshalled by Kinsale Lions, the event has gained a reputation for efficiency, friendliness and pleasure. First proceeding towards the Old Head and then Garretstown, the route follows the coast by Coolmain Bay and on to Timoleague. Less experienced cyclists can then decide to venture to Clonakilty by a direct, shorter route, whilst those ready for the challenge can veer towards Courtmacsherry and the Seven Heads to enter Clonakilty alongside the Bay.
Lunch is provided at Clonakilty G.A.A. before a shorter return run via Ballinspittle to finish in Kinsale.
The longer version is just over 100 km.  Safety is paramount with regular marshals, Garda supervision and a medical staff available all the way for anything unforeseen.
The entry fee, including the lunch etc. is € 35 and a website is available for anyone wishing to donate or obtain sponsorship for the Sick Children of Cork City Hospitals and the National Rehabilitation Centre who cared for Kinsale Lions Past President, Séamus Keating.
